RICHMOND, Va. —With the start of VCU men’s basketball just around the corner on Nov. 9, expectations for Shaka Smart’s team are high. The team is number 15 on USA Today‘s preseason poll, and has been picked to return to the Final Four.

Seniors Rob Brandenburg and Juvonte Redic will be the team leaders this season, after the team lost three seniors at the end of last year’s season. Fans also expect new players, Mo Alie-Cox and Jordan Burgess,  to make a big impact.

“To me the biggest strength of this team is going to be the two D’s: Depth and Defense,” said Wes McElroy, afternoon host of Sports Radio 910.

McElroy thinks the team’s tough schedule will set them up for a strong postseason.

“This conference schedule, the nonconference schedule all of the above is going to really challenge it and prepare it if and when it gets to the tournament,” he said.
