Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden recognized in international competition

Richmond’s Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden placed second in the category of Public Gardens in the USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards. The international competition put the Richmond location up against 19 other gardens around the world. The garden is currently hosting its annual exhibition, “Butterflies Live.” Zarmeena Waseem reports.

Downtown Richmond has seen an increase in both business and residential development over the last decade. Monument City Coffee and Records owner Eric Truitt hopes that his business will assist in the continued resurgence of the neighborhood. Nick Wright reports.

Spring brings new life to Richmond Metro Zoo

Richmond Metro Zoo welcomed a number of new additions with spring, including a giraffe, camel and kangaroo. The babies, as well as five cheetah cubs that were born last year, are now on display for the public.

Proposal transforms 17th Street Farmer’s Market into public plaza

A proposed plan by the City of Richmond would convert the 17th Street Farmer’s Market to a public plaza before the city hosts the 2015 Road World Cycling Championships. The plan, which at this point has been well received, includes a public square, outdoor dining area and a band shelter.

Graduate students in VCU’s Brandcenter are working on a tourism campaign to promote Richmond as a gay friendly city. Richmond Region Tourism asked the Brandcenter to help create the campaign, resulting in #OutRVA. Nick Wright reports.
