VCU revamping overcrowded library

Renovations to the 44-year-old James Branch Cabell Library on the VCU campus began earlier this month. VCU received a $50 million budget to expand the building in response to severe overcrowding. According to VCU officials the facility has the least space of any university library in Virginia. Renovations should be complete by fall 2015.

International Book Exchange Program Arrives in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. — An international book exchange movement that was started in Wisconsin to promote world literacy has come to Richmond. The book exchange program, called Little Free Library, is located throughout Richmond in residential communities and coffee shops. People are encouraged to take a book from the libraries and then return them or trade them in at another Little Free Library in the community. Currently there are five Little Free libraries registered in the Richmond area.

VCU’s Cabell Library extends hours

For about five years VCU’s Cabell Library has been extending library hours in what they refer to as “Library Lights All Night,” but only around exam time. Starting March 18, Cabell Library will operate 24 hours five days a week, Sunday through Friday.
